Heat Your Water With Solar

Heat Your Water With Solar

Summary: Heat your water sustainably with solar power

Description

How much money and energy are you wasting on hot water? If you have heat pumps are you still heating you water with fossil fuels?  By switching to a solar hot water system, you will reduce your utility costs and carbon footprint.  Solar hot water systems require only 2 - 3 solar panels and most homes can find space for them facing the sun.

A solar hot water system captures heat from sunlight and circulates the thermal energy to your water tank. While they do not fully replace conventional water heaters, they can provide up to 80% of a building’s total hot water needs.

Systems consist of the solar collectors on the roof, the storage tank inside your home, the pump, and controls, as well as an insulated line set that runs between the solar collectors and the storage tank.

These systems are passive and therefore practically maintenance and hassle-free and keep working for decades.

Are there any incentives to switch?

Absolutely! Solar tax credits, alternative energy certificates, and generous rebates are available, with higher incentives for low- and moderate-income customers.

Where can I get a system?

We cannot recommend vendors but we do know that several Harvard residents have used New England Solar Hot Water at (508-269-3883) or you can visit their website here.
